Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt

Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt (AAU) is a young, lively, innovative university located in the Austrian state of Carinthia, a meeting point of three cultures. AAU is Carinthia’s largest academic institution and a hub for the whole of the Alps-Adriatic region in terms of knowledge acquisition, exchange and transfer. The university’s lively, diverse atmosphere and sense of openness makes it the cultural centre for the region. In keeping with the university’s mission statement, one of AAU’s key tasks is to push boundaries through the research, teaching and many active co-operation projects taking place in the region.

Within the research focus on “Networked and Autonomous Systems”, the researchers at Alpen-Adria Universitaet Klagenfurt work on a world where machines and objects are getting “smart”, providing services and information to offer maximum benefit for the environment, resources and, above all, humans.

The research groups at the Institute for Smart Systems Technologies work in particular on how such systems interact with the environment (Sensors and Actuators), how the networked components of the systems work together (Control of Networked Systems) and how beneficial complex systems are created from many individual components (Transportation Informatics).

Fachhochschule Kärnten
(Carinthia University of Applied Science)

Through continuous development and expansion of the study program, the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences offers a future-oriented education in various areas in close cooperation with industry and science. The 35 study programs focus in the fields of technology, economics, health and social affairs.

The master’s program in the Integrated Systems and Circuits Design provides students with an in-depth introduction to the world of microelectronics and integrated circuits (IC’s). In order to meet the demands of this constantly growing core technology, the project-oriented trainning includes all necessary competences in the area of integrated analog and digital circuit development, modelling of electronic systems, CAD tools, as well as in-depth special topics in the areas of power electronics, sensor technology, high frequency technology or digital signal processing.

Silicon Austria Labs GmbH

With the research areas Sensor Systems, RF Systems Power Electronics, System Integration Technologies and Embedded Systems, SAL is offering “key enabling technologies” for electronic based systems and is laying the basis for smart products and processes that create the foundations for things such as Industry 4.0, the Internet of Things (IOT), autonomous driving, cyber-physical systems (CPS), AI, smart cities, smart energy and smart health. In this project, SAL will focus on hybrid integration and advanced printing technologies for flexible and sretachable elecronics. Hybrid integration leverages the strengths of flexible and printed electronics to manufacture compliant and large-area electronics and silicon-based technologies for computation and signal communication. SAL’s expertise in fine-pitch flip-chip integration of µ-chips with a low-temperature budget can be considered as the key enabler of advanced hybrid and flexible electronics, also as a requirement for novel packaging platforms with temperature-sensitive components such as paper or PET
